Pantech Vega Racer 2 World's First Ceramic Phone

Pantech Vega Racer 2 World's First Ceramic Phone

This is Vega Racer 2 the world's first ceramic phone by Pantech. wow can you imagine a cellphone made out of ceramic? This phone is expected to hit South Korea either at the end of this month, or in early May 2012, and it has some pretty interesting specs.

Pantech Vega Racer 2 Specification

First of all, there’s that ceramic body, which Pantech claims is the first ever in the smartphone world. Then there’s also a 4.8-inch 720p HD touchscreen, and a dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 processor (which is a Krait 28nm part, and will probably clocked at 1.5 GHz).

The original Vega sold in more than 1 million units in Korea so far, and Pantech hopes that the sequel will double that number, especially since it comes with the all-important LTE support.

Pantech officials seem hopeful that glass ceramic coatings should be a lot more durable than plastics. We’ll have to see for ourselves, though. And unfortunately it probably won’t be the Pantech Vega Racer 2 which will convince us of this, since it’s almost certainly not going to make it out of South Korea.

Still, since Pantech has provided smartphones for US carriers every now and then, perhaps a future ceramic design will make it Stateside at some point in the future. If not, competitors surely will do something about this, especially if ceramic coating becomes the new ‘HD screen’ or ‘multi-core processor’ in terms of spec craze.
